The September 2026 NPI file lists 528 imaging organisations in Illinois: 265 registered under the MRI or radiology clinic codes (101, or 19%, with the MRI-specific code) and 263 diagnostic-radiology organisations classified by name. Chicago-Naperville-Elgin is the largest market with 416 records, followed by St. Louis (22), Marion-Herrin (8) and Mount Vernon (8). 21 records sit outside the metro areas listed below or alone in a small area; they are listed on this page.
Price context: a single-region MRI in Illinois runs $550 to $1,600 cash at a freestanding centre, which is our own estimate. At hospitals it is measured, not estimated: a brain MRI runs $254 to $4,532 cash, median $1,505 against a median gross charge of $3,962, from 47 of the 61 Illinois hospitals whose own price files we have read, out of 114 in the state, files dated to September 2026.
